Dark Souls - Artorias Build
Artorias was one of the those characters, that from the moment I saw them, I knew that I needed to cosplay them. The helmet was created a few years back, with it's own build page.
The rest of the costume came to fruition when I decided to build it for competing at TwitchCon 2018. This involved streaming at least 15 hours of work, along with a whole slew of other requirements.
All the armor is veg tanned, with thickness ranging from 2 oz to 8 oz. Everything was patterned in Eva foam first, then transferred to leather. The edges were cleaned up, surface stamped, and then wet shaped. As I've always done, a layer of USMC black dye is applied, followed by airbrushed silver leather paint, and a protective layer of Saddle Lac. Tamiya was used for weathering.
I did some research when it came to the fabric and learned more about historic knight wear and the fabrics involved. The blue is a linen hybrid called 'Medieval Blue', with the cream also being a linen hybrid. Everything was hand patterned using left over fabrics from past projects. I made sure to line where appropriate, as well as have finished edges everywhere.
I used steel rings for the chain mail from TheRingLord.com. It added up to around 15 lbs when done.
The sword and the shoulder were modeled in Zbrush, then printed in ABS and finished. They are both painted with Alclad Steel, and clear coated with Pledge Floor polish, before being weathered with Alclad's glossy black.
The sword took around 80 hours to print, with different sections being printed at different resolutions, based on how detailed they were. It surprisingly only took one roll of filament. The interior is reinforced with two oak rods; one in the main body and one in the handle. Both are capable of connecting to the other thanks to a screw, allowing the sword to be broken down for travel.
I also made a little video documenting my adventure in making this and attending TwitchCon.
