Destiny - Bolt Caster
This was a project of many firsts. This was the first project that I had modeled in Fusion 360 to finish up and paint. It was printed on my Polyprinter 229 in ABS. Came out to be about 15 pieces. They were assembled with an ABS slurry. I also brushed on some acetone to speed up the sanding process. All pieces were sanded starting with 180 grit, up to 400; with the gem getting wet-sanded up to 2000 in preparation for molding and casting. Rustoleum filler primer and spot putty were used to fill the print lines. After sanding, the pommel and blade were painted with auto paint.
I made my first matrix mold for the gem. I'd been meaning to make my first for awhile now and the gem seemed small and simple enough that it would be a good learning process. I picked plastipaste II for my mother mold and used Mold Max NV14 for my silicone, since I wouldn't need to de-gas it. High Noon Creations LLC was kind enough to let me borrow her vacuum chamber to remove the bubbles from the tinted Smooth Cast 325 to help achieve a wonderful crystal-like appearance. This was wet sanded and clear coated.
