Kingdom Hearts - Ava Mask
This was commissioned as part of a pair along with a set of gems that the character has around her cloak.
It began in Zbrush, then was sectioned off in Netfabb and made into a printable file with Kisslicer64. It was printed out a total of 3 times because of sizing issues. Material was ABS and it was done on my Polyprinter 229. 16 pieces total.
I followed the usual routine for finishing a 3d print. ABS slurry to attach all the printed parts. FIller primer and spot putty to smooth it all out. I made the mistake of not masking several parts that I meant to keep the print texture on and had to print out thin sheets to attach instead. This project involved more masking than I've ever had to do. Thank goodness for Tamiya tape. I never would have gotten such clean edges without it. Most of the paint is Tamiya acrylics airbrushed on; diluted with 70% Isoprpyl Alcohol. I attempted a brushed metal texture by following Volpin's ebook and using two metallic lacquers and fine steel wool. I recommend the book.
It was all clear coated with airbrushed Pledge floor polish, a trick I learned from the model care forums. It's an acrylic clear coat that runs through an airbrush really well. No need to dilute. And then clean up with windex. Smells like strawberries.
The eyes are my first time working with clear worbla. I don't have a vacuum former right now and figured this would be a good project to try it with. They were dyed orange after two soaks in Rit Dyemore baths. They had been previously shaped by heating and stretching over eye blanks I had printed.
I talk about the gems more in the Invi build log.
