RWBY - Adam Mask Replica
My boyfriend recently got a job at RT working on RWBY and wanted something from the show on his work desk. I didn't get the chance to document too much of the construction and took more photos during the stencil part of the project.
I really wanted the symbols to be mirrored properly, so hand painting was out of the picture. Especially after I learned how hard it was to brush paint with Tamiya, my chosen paint for this project. I really want to grow stronger with the airbrush, so looked up how to make stencils using painters tape. Knowing what I know now, I would pick a different tape, since some of the symbol turned out hazy, but it was a good practice run.
Mask was done in Maya, printed on my Poly Printer 229 in ABS, and finished with Rustoleum Filler Primer and Spot Putty.
White is Tamiya Glossy White and the red is Tamiya Glossy Red, both airbrush with my Iwata Medea Neo. It's weathered with some mixed up grey Tamiya as well as some acrylic grey.
The clear coat is a technique I've been meaning to try for a while. Pledge Floor Finish. Like, the stuff made for coating floors. I've seen on model car forums that they use it to coat their models. I wanted to try something other than an enamel or a lacquer for a while. Crazy thing was, I couldn't find the product in person until I moved to Austin. Dallas had in no where in sight.
I applied it with my airbrush in several light layers, no need to thin it at all. It gave the piece a nice glossy shine and smelled like strawberries. (Still, always wear a mask)
